The Audi Hangar
|
The Audi
Hangar is the logical architectural implementation
of the Audi brand and the values it represents.
This is where the customer can truly experience
the world of Audi.
|
The quest
for the ideal fusion of extra space and economy
into one architectural entity leads to the hangar
– the hall used in the aerospace industry.
Of course, we do not want to house airships or aircraft,
but the idea of the hangar is a compelling one:
under the sweeping curve of the Audi showroom roof,
a generously proportioned, strikingly shaped area
spreads out before us, a space formed by the light,
translucent glass walls and a delicate steel tracery
free of the clutter of extra supports, struts or
columns.
|
This
construction method, the visionary essence of which
is certainly comparable with the space frame, unites
economy, ecology and elegance, making a visual symbolic
gesture – and becoming at the same time the
new symbol of the Audi brand.
|
History of the Audi Hangar
|
The first Audi Hangar
was opened in Ingolstadt, Germany, in May 1996.
The unusual architectural concept – that of
a modern aircraft hangar – was developed by
the Munich-based architect, professor Klaus Schmidhuber,
and the Audi Corporate Identity Team.
|
Audi
AG initiated the showroom-hangar concept. Together
with architect Henn, Munich and Schmidhuber, the
dealer vision was translated into the architectural
reality of a unique Audi showroom that took on the
styling of a modern aircraft. To date, there are
between 250 and 300 Audi Hangars worldwide. In Asia-Pacific
region, Audi Hangars exist in Australia, New Zealand,
China and Japan. The first Audi hangar in Southeast
Asia was opened in Jakarta at the end of 2003. Malaysia
launched its Audi Hangar in mid-August 2004.
